Education - Practicums
Practicums offer intensive practical experience with Parliamentary
Procedure. Over a period of several days, novices and parliamentary
experts share, study and practice parliamentary procedure. Participants
learn to help organizations expedite meetings, reach decisions and save
time. This is the place to find solutions to those disturbing problems
you may have encountered in all types of meetings.
In 1980 the first practicum at a college campus was held at the
College of William and Mary. In 1996 AIP officially named the practicum the
Floyd M. Riddick Memorial Practicum in honor of the practicum's founder,
Floyd M. Riddick, who served as Parliamentarian for the United States
Senate.*
In January 1982, the first West Coast Practicum was held in the
Davidson Center at the University of Southern California. The practicum
moved to the California State Polytechnic University - Pomona in January 1990 and
honors Richard E. Lucas, CPP-T, who provided many years of volunteer support.**
Both Practicums are held annually to stimulate and enrich all who are
interested in the correct use of Parliamentary Procedure.

Floyd M. Riddick Practicum is traditionally held in June in the Baltimore – DC area.
**The Richard E. Lucas Memorial Practicum is traditionally held the
second weekend of January from Thursday evening through Sunday.
